Due to the survey responses it seems like it alleviates stress for most of my students if I manage my class content through Teams. So, this will be the last week that I will update the class website.
You will turn in most work to Teams, but some work will still be turned into Turnitin.com. All assignments for the week will be posted on Sundays on Teams. I will no longer email through Turntin.com. You will need to check the class Teams page to see assignments due on Mondays and Thursdays. You can find a slideshow here on how to use Teams, if you're not famliar.
Monday, April 13, 2020 I will host a short Zoom meeting during your assigned class period. This is an optional meeting where I will discuss our agenda, Teams usage, and Catcher reflections. It will not be posted online after. The ID and password will be emailed.
Read and take notes in your spiral on these two slideshows: Taking Notes for Non-Fiction and the “They Say, I Say” Writing Technique.
Read the Snow Globe Solastagia article. Answer the text-based questions and descriptive writing prompt about Holden’s special place in your spiral (4 points).
For the drawing portion, look online for an image of the place you selected to write about and sketch it to the best of your ability on separate blank paper. Remember this is not an art class, so I don’t have high standards, but there is a lot of research-based evidence surrounding the benefit of art therapy and visualization exercises in times of struggle. (2 points).
Then, write a one-paragraph “They Say, I Say” style response to the article in your spiral (2 points).
Use the Genius Scan app to upload all of your work by Thursday, 4/16 at 11:59 p.m.
Check that you know your password and ID for NoRedInk, for as assignment that will be posted on Friday and due on Monday evening. If you need me to reset your password for you do it asap.
EXTRA CREDIT: If you have read a book that is more than 300 pages during our Remote Learning (It doesn’t have to be on your PR list), please mark it as completed and rate it on your Goodreads account. Then, complete this assignment for four extra credit points due Friday, 5/22 at 11:59 p.m. You may earn up to 12 Bonus Books points (3 books) for the semester. **You can access digital books free through the Libby app (with a Library card which you can get online at pvld.org) and Audible Free Stories.
